HOW DID ASIA GET IT’S NAME?

The word Asia originated from the Ancient Greek word Ασία, first attributed to Herodotus (about 440 BC) in reference to Anatolia or, for the purposes of describing the Persian Wars, to the Persian Empire, in contrast to Greece and Egypt. Herodotus comments that he is puzzled as to why three women's names are used to describe one land mass (Europa, Asia, and Libya, referring to Africa), stating that most Greeks assumed that Asia was named after the wife of Prometheus but that the Lydians say it was named after Asias, son of Cotys who passed the name on to a tribe in Sardis.
Even before Herodotus, Homer knew of a Trojan ally named Asios, son of Hyrtacus, a ruler over several towns, and elsewhere he describes a marsh as ασιος (Iliad 2, 461). The Greek term may be derived from Assuwa, a 14th century BC confederation of states in Western Anatolia. Hittite assu- = "good" is probably an element in that name.
Alternatively, the ultimate etymology of the term may be from the Akkadian word (w)aû(m), which means "to go out" or "to ascend", referring to the direction of the sun at sunrise in the Middle East, and also likely connected with the Phoenician word asa meaning east. This may be contrasted to a similar etymology proposed for Europe, as being from Semitic erēbu "to enter" or "set" (of the sun). However, this etymology is considered doubtful, because it does not explain how the term "Asia" first came to be associated with Anatolia, which is west of the Semitic-speaking areas, unless they refer to the viewpoint of a Phoenician sailor sailing through the straits between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

7 Secrets of Great Sleep

Do you have trouble getting a good night's rest? These simple tips can help you find that longed-for slumber.
A good friend of mine, Lily couldn't get a good night's rest. The 32 year old Mom, went to be night tired from work, but couldn't sleep. Millions of Asians suffer from insomnia -  defined as an inability to fall sleep or to sleep through the night several nights a week for weeks on end. The health risk of sleep deprivation can be serious, even life-threatening.
Sleeping pills can offer quick relief but many people don't realize that they can become adducted. Sleeping pills should be used only on a doctor's prescription. Before resorting to medication, try these tips for a better night's rest:
  1. Eat and Live Healthy - A glass of red wine can make it easier to drop off. Too much alcohol, however, can lead to restless sleep. Nicotine impairs the quality of sleep, and caffeine keeps many people awake. People with sleeping problems shouldn't consume stimulants such as tobacco or caffeine. Do not take heavy dinner meal before bedtime. A heavy evening meal activates digestion, which stop the body from winding down.
  2. Relax - Stress can hinder sleep. Unwinding with a good book or an evening stroll with your partner to "clear up" the day.
  3. Exercise more - If you jog, ride a bicycle or swim for half an hour at least three times a week, you''l need more sleep -  and you'll increase deep sleep phases. But sport late in the evening may stimulate the body and circulation too much This does not apply to sexual activity.
  4. Improve your Bedroom - The bedroom and particular the bed should condition us to fall asleep. One of this, is choosing the quietest room. Air the room well before going to bed, or leave the window slightly open through the night. Set the room temperature at a comfort able level. Use curtains or blinds to darken the room as much as possible. Choose good mattresses, with proper back support. Use bedding that is appropriate for the season.
  5. Go to bed at the right time - You can't catch up on lost sleep. Getting more sleep at the weekend doesn't make p for too little sleep during the week. Go to bed and wake up at about the same time every day. A regular time for getting up ensures that our bio-logical rhythm - our "inner clock" - isn't disturbed. Don't take a nap at midday if you have sleep problems. even a short nap during the day can make it more difficult to sleep at night.
  6. Create a bedtime ritual - A bath - Temp: 34 to 38 degrees - can make you sleepy. Lavender oil is relaxing. Bedtime snacks such as banana or hot milk with honey contain the protein element L-tryptophan, which gears the brain to sleep.
  7. Get up rather than toss and turn - A friend of mine talks about her experience, sleeping late every night. "Every night she lies awake in bed, then gets up and turns on the television. After watching TV for a while, she go back to sleep". Try not to watch your bedside clock. Thinking I have to sleep now because I've got to get up in two hourswill make falling asleep even harder. Position the clock so that the luminous figures or the ticking sound don't disturb you. If you have to get up briefly at night, don't switch on a bright light. I can upset your inner clock and cause wakefulness.
These tips will help in many cases. If you're still sleeping badly after several weeks, don't experiment with medication. See the doctor instead. And if you are dependent on sleeping pills, don't despair. You can learn to manage without medication. Use these tips to help you get rid off sleepless nights. Your life will be back to normal.

Computer Programming

I learned that computer programming is an active mental endeavor. Programmers must break down complex problems into sub problems and then develop procedural instructors. According to research that programming is the only subject in the whole curriculum that succeeds in teaching learners about things as a process. There are also program that can help the learners to enhance their competencies

Guidance for using computers and computer software’s

The guidelines give information wherein the teacher or the users can be able to become aware of those services, uses of the computer in the classroom. And on how the users should be able to correct simple problems that they will encounter.

Computer Software

I have learned that current software presents whole units and courses of instructions and interactive systems that being introduced nowadays. I have also learned that the early software are consist with specific answers while the new software permits a variety of students with branching to appropriate levels of instruction based on the students response.

Evaluating Computer Software

I have learned that the eight characteristics evaluated on evaluating software is that it should has a quality, directions, user interaction, data flexibility and evaluation. With these characteristics we can enjoy the learning process through computer software.

Telecommunication System and Satellite Dishes

I have learned that Telecommunication refers to information exchange between two or more locations connected by electronic media, including television, radio, and telephone. And the presentation of the reporter it stated that there are several hundreds of educational organizations have their own telecommunication system. And based on what I have learned there are about fifty percent own their system.45% base, and only 5% operate a combined based-owned system. Also I have learned that owned systems operate through television or radio broadcast system based or based-owned systems operate through telephone lines. On this new technology of instructional materials we can have more knowledge to share into our students.

Satellite Dishes

In this topic I learned that dish is a type of parabolic antenna designed to receive microwaves from communications satellites, which transmit data transmissions or broadcasts, such as satellite television. In which the teacher can be able to use it as material for instruction. It can also provide information to both teachers and learners. The satellite services include educational programs for the home, but this will happen only if the teacher call for it and use it when available.

Teleconference

I have learned that a teleconference to be successful, presentations need to be both interesting and educational. The integration of media components such as slide, overhead transparencies, videotapes, or handouts in an audio teleconference expands a single-channel presentation into a multi-sensory channel presentation. The selection and utilization of such media should be based upon instructional principles derived from research on human perception and human learning. Attention-gaining techniques can include the use of alerting sounds, light changes, or other sudden changes in the environment, and the design of instructional materials to emphasize important concepts. The organization or patterns of a message also play an important role in the processing of information; e.g. spatial arrangement or temporal ordering of message elements can facilitate perceptual groupings and reduce processing demands. The teleconference presenter also needs to be aware of learning strategies which affect retention of content, and organize the presentation so that the content is relevant, the learner understands the structure and organization of the presentation, and interactive techniques are used to involve the learner actively in the learning process. A variety of media components can be integrated into a teleconference presentation to enhance retention of the material presented.

Teletext System

I have learned that teletext system images provide a useful method of presenting information to the learners. In a learning situation the use of pictorial forms can offer a high-bandwidth mechanism for the transfer of information between an instructor and a student. This paper discusses some ways of providing graphic support in a computer-based learning environment and describes some approaches to the provision of authoring facilities that utilize this technique.

Telewriting

I have learned that Telewriting is an instrument in which a kind of system for transmitting handwriting and similar data in real time over voice grade telephone lines and reproducing such data at remote locations utilizes digital transmission to reduce the effects of transmission noise and signal distortion and to provide an easy means for control of remote apparatus. An ultrasonic transducer and microphone combination provides readout of the writing head position with respect to a writing surface such as a blackboard. The readout signal is converted into digital form and transmitted to the remote locations where it is reconverted to analog form. The analog signal is used to control the deflection of an ultraviolet laser which reproduces the data on a photosensitive plate while the plate is simultaneously projected by visible light. The analog signal can also control other types of utilization apparatus. So this is applicable for distance learning.

Telepicturephones

It is an offshoot of the writing system. And I learned that it can send images from the monitor to another over the telephone wires. The sender can also transmit pictures within 8-30 seconds to another unit. This is also applicable for distant schools. The transmission system can link within a 200 mile range, so it is applicable to use in distance learning.

Telecoursers

It is use at home by the learners, since the older learners can work independently for secondary level. While in elementary level they are better to used in whole group instruction in the school. So the teacher can provide necessary monitoring feedback.

Video System

In what I have learned classroom which integrates sources of video instructional materials, such as TV, CATV, VCR, video disk players, closed circuit TV, and the like, with sources of computer-based instructional materials is disclosed. Modulated video sources are converted to baseband and applied, along with baseband video sources, to a multichannel modulator or headend. The headend drives a local video network (LVN) which couples to a plurality of student workstations and to an instructor workstation. In addition a local area network (LAN) couples to the student workstations, the instructor workstation, and to a file server. Each of the instructor and student workstations includes a computer, a monitor control unit (MCU), a video display, and an audio transducer. The workstation computers couple to the LAN and the workstation MCU's couple to the LVN. A curriculum delivery system (CDS), located on the file server, causes computer-based instructional materials to be transferred from the file server through the LAN to selected ones of the student workstations, in which case such student MCU's route computer-based video and audio to their associated video displays and audio transducers. Additionally, under the control of the CDS through student computers and student MCU's, video instructional materials from the LVN may be displayed on video displays and audio transducers of selected ones of the student workstations. As a result of this system, student learning is interactive, individualized, and personalized in a multi-media environment.

What You Should Do When A Wart Appears

Most warts disappear naturally, often within a few months but can sometimes be years before they disappear. You may prefer to wait for this to happen. But if you do have warts that are really bothering you either by the way they look or feel you should seek treatment. There are two known cases where you should see your doctor rather than treating these warts with over the counter medicine or self help treatments. The first type of wart is called penile or vulval warts.

The other is if you have any other wart of any kind show up on your skin if you are 45 years old or older. In older individuals what looks like a wart could actually be a more serious skin condition, such as skin cancer. There are four kinds of malignant melanomas. The typical appearance is a malignant melanoma usually this takes the form of a dark, slightly raised lump.Such a malignant growth that can look like a wart also can occur in an existing mole, and cause it to enlarge and perhaps bleed.

Another type is a large brown fleck on the face, which occurs in the elderly and takes 15-20 years to become malignant. A blue, brown,or black lump that bleeds easily, and a dark area that enlarges near the tip of a finger. So as you can see warts can be treated if they are indeed warts. If however, you do nothing about the wart and it is not a wart very disastrous things could become the outcome. So always look at what can be done for warts or any other skin condition you or a loved one may have.

The elderly usually do not want to bother their family members for something they think is common such as a wart because they believe it is just from their aging and are probably just spots that they get as they get older. If you are a family member of and elderly person check their skin to see if they may have a wart of some kind or possibly a skin condition that needs to be treated immediately.

When you have knowledge about skin conditions that can occur on a person you can help a person that may need answers about their possible wart or any other skin condition they may have.I have had to go to the doctor with my husband for his skin cancer and what he has to go through because he waited to long is very unpleasant. He let one piece of skin cancer go to long that was on his temple, that he had to get it cut out.

They had to cut very deep five different times to get the skin cancer out.So knowing what to do when you have any skin condition can be life saving, whether it may look like a wart or not get it treated immediately for your own protection or a loved ones.

Introduction of being independent

Independence can be a very personal thing! You must decide how to be independent and what independence means to you. It doesn’t mean you will leave alone and it’s not just about where you live. Independence includes good decision-making skills and learning about the areas in your life where you can take charge!

Understanding Interdependence

Independence doesn’t mean you have to be alone and make decisions by yourself. Something that’s really important to know is this:
We are all INTER-dependent. What does that mean? It means no one has to be on their own without any help or support. Our ultimate goal should be interdependence. That means having the drive to tackle our goals alone, but also having the wisdom to ask for helps when we need it.
We all need some support from friends and family to get to where we are going, to reach our goals, and to get a little help when we’ve dug ourselves into a hole! So you can be independent and interdependent at the same time. Hey, a support system is one thing that makes being independent a lot easier.
Interdependence ultimately means that:
  • You can be independent and still ask for help.
  • You can be independent and still have someone support you to make decisions.
  • You can be independent and still rely on others to see you through a tough time.
  • You can be independent and still share your good times, good fortune, and important events with friends, family, and others.

Knowing it's Important

Most of us want to be more independent some day. Just about every teen at The Youth hood has talked about moving out by there own and having their own place. But one thing we’ve learned is that we set choices so that we can choose among what is good for us.
Having a safe, comfortable, and convenient place to live makes life easier, like finding a good job, making friends, and having involvement in your community. Understanding all these things that we go into living independently is the key.

Making Decisions

There are a lot of decisions you have to make if you want to be independent. That means you have to think about and explore a lot of ideas -- things like where to live, whether or not to live with someone else, whether or not your job can support you. It’s easy to take this stuff for granted when you’re growing up and your parents take care of things. But becoming independent means you have to start making decisions about these things. So you have to start learning skills for good decision-making. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
But how do you learn to make good decisions? There are lots of ways to make decisions:
  • You can guess and hope you are right (not good).
  • You can ask someone else and then do what they say (Now, why would you want to do that?).
  • You can ask for advice from a bunch of different people and then try to pick the answer that sounds right (getting a little better).
  • You can talk it over with someone you trust (good idea).
  • You can practice with decisions that aren’t too important so you can start to feel more confident (great idea).
  • You can talk it over with someone, list the ideas that sound the best, do some role playing, then pick the best solution based on your information gathering (okay, this sounds excellent).
  • You can just sit there and let the world pass you by and let others make all the decisions for you (if you picked this answer, we have some serious work ahead of us).

Having a Disability

So you have a disability? That doesn’t mean you can’t live independently or be independent in other areas of your life. Many young adults with disabilities choose their own apartments. Some young adults are even buying houses, townhouses, or condominiums because they planned ahead!
At The Youth hood, lots of teens with disabilities live independently in their own places by themselves or with roommates. Some live independently but are still at home with their families.
Being independent isn’t easy. You need to work hard to make things happen. If you plan ahead, get help with your planning, and make sure you have a plan for the support you need, you can make it happen!

Facebook accounts held hostage

Wonder why how odd you can't access your facebook?

As a user of this social friend network “Facebook”, I do get the occasional I do read complaints from my friend list history most recent section), for one reason or another, are experiencing errors, disconnections, slow server response, and etc, when they try to access their accounts. But it's never been anything like this on past months or weeks. Now, the community is facing a threat of having their account deleted or can’t be access. Facebook tech team is working on the possible reasons why accounts unintentionally deleted. So there's an argument to be made that users shouldn't be complaining about something they don't pay for. But that's an argument that many of the people who have come to rely on Facebook as a channel of communication simply they won’t understand.

Whether the string of complaints is assured or not, Facebook hasn't disclosed anything about the issue of maintenance to be extended to cope up to all users expectations to the company.

Love is powerful than hate

Love and hate are the strongest opposites in our divided thinking. Why then unhappy love often turns into hatred and ruin relationships? A person who is in love loves everyone. This overwhelmingly feeling can change the radical world. A person in hate becomes a huge violent force. It drives to an abyss of destruction.
Love is more powerful than hate because, as it was in the song, love can lead to hate, whereas hate will never, even literally, produces love. Love is more powerful because it gives birth to new challenges. A new positive challenge, love changes a person. It enriches the world, extends all boundaries, enhances opportunities, brightens up friendships, and deepens emotions. A person in love has a specific aura, a kind of energy that is given off, scattered in all directions, all those love stories, powerful in their complex feelings and emotions.

But love will break away. It will vanish. So powerful to vanish, or love never will go away. Love's components are passion, and commitment, with their variations. Complete love that balances them all is rare. If Romeo and Juliet had lived longer, would they have loved each other with commitment? I have doubts. Love is powerful because it can transform people. It is, in fact, a transforming process of relationships, in which closeness remains stable.

Who does lived to hate? Love is powerful because it directs us, and makes our entity meaningful. Hate invites loneliness, but love denies it. Hate ruins personality, but love builds ego identity. Hate results in acts of violence, but love leads to acts of kindness. Hate destroys, but love will create. Hate is war, but love is peace. Hate is bad, but love is good. Hate is revenge, but love is construction. Hate is meaningless, but love has purpose. It is not possible "to love to hate". It is consistent; "love" will give birth to "love". That's why love is powerful than hate.

One life to live

Your days are numbered!

Your life will end! (psalm 90:10)

We can expect seventy years, or maybe eighty, if we are healthy, but even our best years bring trouble and sorrow. Suddenly our time is up, and we disappear.

Life is empty without God.

(Ecclesiastes 2:3)

I wanted to find out what was best for us during the short time we have on this earth. So I decided to make myself happy with wine and find out what it means to be foolish, without really being foolish myself.

4 Ways of living:

1. to waste life.

2. To live one’s life.

3. To live for earthly goals.

4. To live for God. (Isaiah 6:8)

How then should you live your life:

  1. Don’t waste your time. (psalms 90:12) Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.
  2. Love completely.
  3. Live passionately. Enjoy wisely.
  4. Give your life to God. Serve God.

John Q - movie

The movie was nice and touching. The cause of the conflict was the insurance John got. He was not covered with the insurance because when the insurance company had reviewed their clients` profiles, they’ve discover that the income of John was not able to reach on the highest offer for the insurance. So he was placed on the lower offers of the company. John didn’t know about this, until the time when he went to the office.

He thought he was covered with the offer the company. When his son got sick, he was desperate to get the cure for his son. Until it came to the point that he had to hostage some people to get what he want. He was desperate to get his son on the list of the heart to be transplanted. He did everything for his son. He was really a hero not only to the eyes of his son, but also to those people who were there. All the time that he was on the hostage crisis, he was using a gun without a bullet in it. So it was not really his intention to hurt anyone around. He just wants his son to get the transplant he needs. It was when he was planning to kill himself, offering his heart to his son. Then a heart was available for his son. His wife entered the hospital and saved his husband by telling him that a heart is already available.

These are just some of the things that struck me. There are so many thrilling scenes and many emotional moments, yet in the end. The movie ended happy and no regrets for John. For him what he did is right. I think if I am on his part. I would do the same. These things will not happen if the government would give same offers to those insurance they offer. Everything really depends on the government and the people of the nation.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S.H.I.P

Friendship is a blessing, and a friend is the channel through whom great emotional, spiritual, and sometimes even physical blessings flow. Friends can cheer us when we’re sorrowful or depressed. Friends can challenge us when we allow ourselves to get beyond our reasonable boundaries. Friends can motivate us when we’re ready to give in, and they can provide for us when life falls apart. They are there when all is well, and we want someone with whom to share life’s pleasant and memorable moments. We often just want them around to have a good time, to laugh, to act silly, to enjoy some mutually liked activity. In how many ways have friends enriched our lives and made us feel loved, accepted, respected and cared for? Probably, too many to list, and the list grows daily.

“True friendship is seen through the heart not through the eyes.”

Friendship is a living thing that lasts only as long as it is nourished with kindness, empathy and understandin,”

Friendship is a gift that two people give to each other. It is not an expected result of meeting but a true and unanticipated gift of enormous potential. True friends form a special connection that will weather any storm. True friends understand being human and give the other room to grow. True friends are there even when they are not expected to be present. True friends know and cherish each other’s gift.
